It is hard to tell whether the participants or the spectators enjoy this event more. It all begins just after the early morning high tide, and ends as the next high tide reclaims the beach. Contestants must stay within their designated plot (20'x 20' for adults), and no sand may be added or removed from the plot. Only materials natural to the beach may be used in the finished sculpture.
Washington Wineries, Wines and Wine Country Tour: June-September
Located on approximately the same latitude (46ºN) as some of the great French wine regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, Washington wineries benefit from grapes ripening with about two more hours of summer sunlight each day than in California wine regions. Gradually cooling autumn temperatures in the region help the grapes reach full maturity, while maintaining desirable acid levels. During your weekend tour you will see many of the best wineries and sample award winning wines that are featured from such respected sources as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Wine Report magazines.
Whale Watching Tour Around the San Juan Islands
2005 Tour Reports that the J, K, and L pods are in the islands. Possibly one more new calf - 6 new calves this year - totaling 88 members of the southern resident community of Orcas! We have seen Orcas, Grays, Humpbacks, and Minke; in fact there have been whales sighted on 205 out of 210 tours in 2004.
